Guinea News from Our Correspondent: Recently, the smooth arrival of ten IIIa concrete sleepers for the Guinea-Mali Railway Project's track-laying base, constructed by China Railway First Group, marked the commencement of construction for Guinea's first track-laying base equipped with rail welding capabilities.
It is understood that this track-laying base is located at the Port of Maripaya in Guinea, occupying an area of 180 acres. It is responsible for the welding and storage of 289 kilometers of long rails within the bid section. The base includes a rail welding yard, a ballast storage area, and a rail material storage area. The rail welding yard is equipped with two long rail storage areas and a rail welding area, capable of storing 190 kilometers of long rails and 130 kilometers of short rails. The ballast storage area can hold 40,000 cubic meters of ballast, while the rail material storage area can accommodate 40 sets of turnouts, 140,000 sleepers, and 30 kilometers of standard gauge track for station lines, meeting the requirements for long rail laying construction.
"To lay long rails directly onto the tracks, we have brought a domestic rail welding yard to Guinea for the first time. On-site, 25-meter standard rails will be welded into 300-meter long rails through the welding production line, and then advanced domestic new multi-functional long rail tractors will be used for mechanized long rail laying. This is a first for China Railway First Group's overseas projects and represents the advanced technological level of Chinese enterprises in Guinea's modern railway construction," explained the project manager of the Guinea-Mali Railway's track-laying and bridging project.
The commencement of construction of Guinea's first track-laying base equipped with rail welding capabilities has pressed the "fast forward button" for China Railway First Group to comprehensively advance the Guinea-Mali Railway project, marking a solid and substantial step forward in the project's track construction.
It is understood that the Mali Railway is a supporting project for the mining and transportation of the Simandou mine area by the Winning Consortium. It is also the longest modern railway built in Guinea since the 1970s. As a new strategic transportation corridor for iron ore in the world, upon completion, it will further strengthen Guinea's dominant position in the global iron ore market, create industrial and agricultural economic corridors, and create more value for deepening the construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative, promoting local economic and social development, and benefiting the people of Guinea.
